Hi there. Thanks for visiting my site.

I write mostly about crime and justice. My stories have run in New York, ELLE, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, Pacific Standard, The Daily Beast, the Observer and other publications. I’ve won a Sidney Award, Green Eyeshade Award, Terry Hughes Award and first-place prizes from the Ohio Associated Press Managing Editors, North Carolina Press Association, National Association of Black Journalists and Association of Alternative Newsmedia.

My longform articles have featured a sex trafficking survivor-turned-sociologist (backstory); #MeToo on Rikers Island (backstory); the Kim Kardashian of steroids; wrongful conviction through the curious lens of accident reconstruction; a nitrous oxide-peddling gang; a Grindr grifter; death and prison healthcare; overdoses linked to heroin and N-bomb; a high school wrestling tragedy; and juvenile crime in Cleveland through the eyes of offenders.

I’m also a sucker for a baseball yarn. I’ve written about an electrician responsible for Busch Stadium’s 660 lights who says he has a dream job, an octogenarian Guardians fan who found his life’s meaning at the ballpark, and a baseball player-turned-attorney who took on MLB.

I live in Baltimore and am still often reminded that John Tucker Must Die. Say hello at JohnHTucker at gmail dot com.
